Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans
*****
I'll begin by saying I have not seen the previous Underworld films. I repeat. I have NOT seen the previous Underworld films. This is so I can see if I'm able to watch one without the others (like you can watch The Dark Knight without watching Batman Begins), the short answer being sort of, yes, though it took me about 50 minutes to find out that some of them were vampires hence the main thing I noticed about Rise of the Lycra (For that is now what I have officially re-named it) is that it likes night-time and the dark, but it has the good black/white contrast that Valkyrie lacked, and while most of time you can't see half of the screen, you can't take your eyes off the other half that's glowing that CGI white colour that we peasants can only dream of having. And yes, that was the short answer.
Also, the main Lycra called Lucian is a blacksmith, someone that is being treated like a slave and someone we are presumably supposed to warm to, but me being as cold as the snow that is preventing me from going to school today and forcing me instead to do pointless film reviews won't.
Glad-fully, I don't find myself being distracted after the first 20 minutes where there has already been sex, death, violence and screaming innocents that no-one really gives a shit about. Brilliant.
The only thing that was really bad about Rise of the Lycra was that the plot was obvious. Yes, okay there were bits that weren't expected, however a film called 'Rise of' anything and the opening few minutes showing said things being treated inhumanly sort of sets you up for things to come. Otherwise, quite gory, quite action packed, worth the watch but I won't be buying the DVD.
